Hellboy Full Movie

The new reboot movie “Hellboy”, released on April 10, 2019, is a disaster. But that does not mean that it is complicated, or it is not clear, exactly; No story full of so many clichés can be really confusing. But the latest adaptation of Mike Mignola’s cult comics, an attempt to reinitiate the successful, if ephemeral, film franchise that Guillermo del Toro started in 2004, presents us with so many complicated points and revelations that it all seems like an exhausting blur.

Directed this time by Neil Marshall (who gave us The Descent), runs from one plot to another with impatience without grace. It is inert where it should be fast, and messy and choppy where it should be waking up. Which is a shame, because Hellboy is a very interesting comic book hero, and he deserves better.

Even the prologue of the film, which involves the former queen of blood mad by power Nimue (Milla Jovovich) being defeated by King Arthur before she can conquer the world, feels familiar, combining a second-class retread of the opening of Lord of the Rings with the mythical type of blazon that already felt tired when “Transformers: The Last Knight” did it several years ago. The only distinction this time is the increased gore, since Nimue is cut graphically into small pieces on the screen. Arturo’s story actually comes from Hellboy comics, and it may have felt like a playful mix once, but here it feels like a creative desperation.

Needless to say, the seductive and sinister Nimue (David Harbor, doing an obedient job, but with little of the arrogance similar to Burt Lancaster that Ron Perlman brought to Del Toro’s version of the character) will return, the former witch queens always vanquished they do it And it will be the paranormal investigator of the half demon, of red face, with form of block and with a cunning way to save the world.

Hellboy also has a connection to the power of King Arthur on his side, although we will not say exactly how that develops, suffice it to say that it is something like “Born To Be King”, only with more blood and people screaming.

The idea of the true nature of the central character, and what could become, is one of the emotional focal points of the film. Hellboy expresses some reluctance to join the fight against Nimue. “The answer to every threat we face can not be annihilation,” he shouts to his father, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm (Ian McShane), who runs the Office of Research and Defense Paranormal. Hellboy is also concerned about a prophecy that he claims will bring the end of the world. He is terrified of what he might be able to do. In a captivatingly brief dream vision, he sees himself riding a terrifying dragon skeleton and transforming a human city into a vision of inferno of fire. It’s an incredible little moment that eventually feels like a disappointment when the true climax of the film, with a group of giants from beyond, breaking through a corner of London, becomes something so brief and small, like extracts from an abandoned sub-plot .

The best that can be said about this Hellboy is that, despite all the chaotic poverty of its history and its characterizations, its world is a creatively imagined world. Your delirious battle of monsters mash-ups is enjoyable. There are fairies who steal children and Scottish demonic boars and gigantic frog warriors, and at one point Sasha Lane vomits a snake, the interdimensional witch Baba Yaga, who walks backward, with only one eye and a half melted, who lives in a house Haunted Rococo style with ostrich legs, etc.

Some of these beasts come from comics, and we hope they have more interesting things to do there. Somehow, the wonder of such creations serves to underscore how generic and uninspired the rest of the film is. And to be fair, the desire to pile up so many of these monsters in a movie may even be one of the reasons why this Hellboy feels like a mess so crowded, that might explain it, but it does not excuse it.

The Agency for the Investigation and Defense Paranormal (AIDP) delegated to Hellboy the profession of sinking an ancestral spirit: Nimue, known as “The Queen of Blood”. Nimue was the worshiper of Merlin himself during the reign of King Arthur, he learned the spells that led her to be one of the most powerful witches … But the moon seized her and imprisoned the hidden for all the glory. Centuries ago they managed to conclude with this villain, burying her deeply, however she has returned from the dead with the desire to raze the aid with her black magic.
